NZ Prime Minister Birth Announcement
Jacinda Ardern and partner Clarke Gayford welcomed Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford. Neve was chosen because they liked the name, while Te Aroha (Maori for "love") honors the support they have received from New Zealanders during her pregnancy. Ardern is the second elected head of state to give birth in office, after Pakistani PM Benazir Bhutto had her daughter Bakhtawar in 1990.edit to clarify: They gave her Ardern as a second* middle name, not a double-barreled surnamehttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/24/neve-te-aroha-new-zealand-pm-jacinda-ardern-reveals-name-of-baby-daughter

I'm assuming that Neve is a simplified version of Niamh and sounds the same; not NehVeh, therefore. Any Kiwis on the board, am I right?

Correct, they used the "neev" pronunciation at the hospital press conference

I really like the meaning behind it, although as a name it’s not my favourite.

Not a bad name at all. Neve isn’t bad and the Maori connection makes sense due to where there from.

Ardern is a second middle name rather, "Te Aroha" is a name in itself.
