Dominic, Robin and Mason
What do you think of those names, for a boy obviously? Any associations etc?
We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.

Dominic is very handsome and masculine. I'm not wild about the nn Dom, however, I do like Nic and even Nico.
Robin doesn't seem very masculine to me although I realize it's a long-established nn for Robert. I think the main problem is that if I saw the name written without knowing the person first, I'd have no idea if this person was male or female (which might be a good thing as far as the person was concerned). If I saw Robyn, I'd assume the person was female. Then again, I don't care for this spelling. On the positive, Robin is short, sweet, and easy to pronounce.
Mason is just a trendy surname (with usually no familial connection). It doesn't even sound pleasant to me. Then again, occupational surnames rarely do.
Re: associations, I've never known anyone with any of these names although I imagine there are quite a few little Masons where I live.

Dominic and Mason are both really popular here in Australia. I think Dominic is an okay name but it always gets shortened to Dom which I just can't warm up to. I really dislike the sound of Mason and am always surprised when people choose it. Robin, however, is an underused, hansome classic IMO. I actually love the Robin Hood association as it keeps it living as a boys' name.
I like Dominic. It's pleasing to say, it's easy to shorten if you want to, & it's fairly classic, and well-used enough to not immediately say 'religious' to me.
Robin is good too: neat and familiar and friendly.
I don't like Mason at all. It's a surname, it brings to mind Freemasons and religious men's clubs with no women allowed, and as others said, it just seems like a new spin on Jason, which at least had a fun ancient adventure story attached to it to make it cooler.

Dominic is one of my favorite names for a boy. Although now that I think about it, I've never met one who spelled his name Dominic. There was one Dominik, from Germany, and every other person I've known with the name spelled it Dominick. One word of advice: every Dominick I've ever met has been mischievous / a trouble-maker to some degree, so be careful.
Robin is cool. Most people will probably think of Robin Williams before Robin Hood, but it isn't like either one is a bad association.
Mason is just terribly trendy, and trying too hard not to be Jason (previously very trendy). Sorry.

Mason is one I just don't see the appeal of. It's a skilled profession, but I don't go for most occupation names and this one is ugly to me. It's the new Jason, I guess.
Robin reminds me of The Boy Wonder and Robin Hood. I like Rob and Robbie, but don't like Robert, so I want to favor Robin, but it doesn't do it for me either.
Dominic is awesome. Handsome and solid, but feels modern. I thought it was a cool name when I was 5 and still do. I associate it with the Rosary, but I don't think very many people would make that connection.

I like Robin very much - seems lighter and livelier than Robert and they're both family names, so it would be my choice.
I dislike Mason a lot, though not as much as I dislike Maeson (I know one!).
Dominic is very pleasant indeed; the problem is that it shortens naturally to Dom, which is a cognate of 'dumb' and actually means 'stupid' in Afrikaans. So I'd be happy to see it and even consider it, if I lived somewhere else.

Dominic is my favorite of the group, Robin being my second favorite. There's nothing wrong with Mason either, but I went to school with one and he died mysteriously (tbh it was probably an overdose) and he's my primary association. Then mason jars and that baffling question of why people think they're so cute that they decorate their entire house with them?
Dominic does give faintly religious vibes like mirfak said, but not so much it bothers me. I have no real reason for preferring it over Robin, I just do.

I like them
Dominic — I like it, but it seems complex in a kind of off-putting way. Dom is a cool NN.
Mason — I had a friend named Mason as a kid (he would be 30ish now) so it makes me think of him. Not a huge fan of the name or other surnames as FNs, though.
Robin — the best of this list. Simple, familiar but not popular, refined. Excellent.

Dominic: I like it. Don't like Dom, but do like Nic. Slight religious association (Catholic).
Robin: I like it. Considered it for my son (husband rejected). Sometimes I think I'd rather Robert called Robin. Don't like it as a word-name on a boy. Sounds like a middle aged British guy. So what.
Mason: little golden boy. Association with freemasonry is weird. Meaning as a word, is too immediate for me to like it - when we need our chimney fixed we call a mason. It's not a bad name though, I approve of it.

Dominic - I'm personally neutral on it, but it's solid name that works well at any age
Robin - My current favorite - it feels fresh and due for a comeback. I think of the bird and Robin Williams, which are both positive associations.
Mason - Not a fan. It sounds whiny to me (in my accent) and for whatever reason every young Mason I've met has been a little terror.
