Claudia
If your name was Claudia, would the meaning (“lame” or “crippled”) genuinely bother you? Would you wish you had a different name because of this? Or would you not care?

I LOVE the name Claudia! It's not in my top ten yet, but it's at least in my top 30. I agree with everything Mirfak said below. :)
and anyway
being lame or crippled is a misfortune, not a character defect.
Of course, if one had a child that was lame or crippled, one wouldn't use it.

I think the meaning would bother me the same way Cecilia ('blind') would. When my bff had her first child, she considered naming her dd Claudia to honor her father. When she discovered the meaning, it immediately turned her off since her father was paralyzed in an accident and died about a month later.
For most people, though, I don't think meaning would be a factor.

Yes, and the similarity in sound to "clod" would make it harder for me to overlook.
But if it were actually my name, I'd probably be attached to it enough that I wouldn't be wishing for a different one.
I'd also be thinking of it as connected to my MN, so hopefully that would be something interesting that would balance it out...like, my names mean "victory Christmas" together, which is weirdly religious imo, so I don't think of it literally...I think of it more like: what does Christmas represent to me? Generosity, family/community, light/warmth in darkness, etc...and I much prefer that meaning to a literal one. And my sister's name means "maiden/virgin" but adding her MN, it'd be "maiden warrior", which is cooler. So I could probably come up with an interpretation I'd be happy with as a Claudia if I tried.

No it's a lovely name and the meaning is not that obvious.
My father - Cecil, the blind man - had very good eyesight and beautiful eyes. I would happily have been a Cecily; my parents didn't bother about the meaning, just the possible confusion.
The only time I'd avoid Claude, Claudia, Cecil, Cecily etc would be if my new baby actually proved to be crippled or blind. That, I think, would be tactless. But for the fortunately physically abled among us, they're just extra names to choose from.

No, I'd probably find it funny. Meanings are pretty much irrelevant unless you're using a word name, imo.
Claudia is a good name, and no, I would not care at all about the meaning. I would not want to have a different name.
No, it wouldn't genuinely bother me and I would not wish I had a different name at all. Because Claudia is from an ancient family name, that almost certainly refers to some lost metaphor or allegory, and was almost certainly intended to allude to virtue or a virtuous person. It refers to that usage, more than it refers to a literal meaning.

You’re right. Maybe I should rethink ...
This is true, and there were also several Christian saints named Claudia, as well as some other positive public figures. I think maybe I could get past the negative connotations of Claudia by focusing on those connections. It’s also a name that just sounds gorgeous.

Agreed on the utterly gorgeous sound.
a name that just sounds gorgeous - absolutely
It wouldn't bother me at all, especially as it's only a possible meaning.
I have a cousin Claudia; afaik she's always liked her name, and the rest of her family like it too, me included.

No, I wouldn't care. As an atheist, I mind the meaning of my own name, "God is gracious", more than I would "crippled" or "lame".
Haha, my sister is also an atheist, and I remember when I told her that her middle name (Elizabeth) meant “pledged to God” she got really annoyed.
Yes it would bother me, and I like the name Claudia otherwise. The meaning is really negative.
I feel like I’d wish that it was something better but it wouldn’t genuinely bother me. I love the name Claudia. (-:
