Wouter
What do you all think of Wouter? It’s the Dutch version of Walter and has occasionally been used in the US.*previously posted as summitseeker*

If you're Dutch I think it'd be great.

I like soundwise actually, and I've never liked Walter. I think it's not as awkward or old seeming. (I know Walter who is 55, one who is 23, and one who is 1... it still sounds ancient to me)
Visually it strikes me as some sort of strange childish slang for a body part? Odd reaction I know, but there it is. I don't think it works all that well in English.

I'm Dutch. This is a pretty common Dutch name. I personally know several guys with this name. For me it's not really a special name. It isn't bland exactly, but also not spunky or exciting. It's a decent name :)I doubt English speaking people will pronounce it correctly. So I'm kinda wondering how you're saying it to yourself.

I’m sure it’s great in Dutch speaking places, but it looks out of place in the US. It looks like how Elmer Fudd would pronounce Walter.

Pronounced like Voter where I live, and pretty unremarkable. How is it pronounced in the US?

More or less the same, at least how I say it.

Best left to Dutch speakers in Dutch-speaking places.
