Of course, it sounds exactly like a word. It's one of the word-virtue names of the Puritans. I don't think it sounds any more like a word than Constance or Grace do. Or Rose, for that matter.

I've always liked Mercy. I do think people would think Merry is Mary, and it would be a headache.
