Padme
I created a poll for it a few days ago, and here are the results so far...
Usable as a first name 35%
Like it but only as a middle name 11%
Can't take it seriously 14%
Don't like the sound 41%
I like it, but I was kind of surprised more people didn't pick "can't take it seriously" (although those people might just dislike the sound more?).
What would your reaction to Padme (pronounced Pad-may) be, if you saw it used in a real life combo, and why?

I'd immediately think "Star Wars fans".
I'd think they were huge Star Wars fans. I've met a Padma and two people called Padmini, but I've never seen the SW spelling used as an Indian name and I've known & worked with a lot of women from Indian backgrounds.
eta: it does have a nice sound, but she was too tragic a character to make a great namesake, imo.

Unless at least one parent was of Indian origins or identified strongly with Indian culture, religion etc, I'd feel uncomfortable. In its own context, it'd be fine.
While it has a nice sound, I would think the parents were obsessed with Star Wars.
I like it a lot. Personally, I'd use Padma instead becasuse Padme seems a little too Star Wars for IRL.
(I don't think that's true of all Star Wars names. On a scale from Obi-Wan to Luke, I'd put it slightly to the Obi-Wan side of Leia if that makes sense. And I think Leia is VERY usable but still more "Star Wars" than Luke.)

I like it! I actually met someone named Padme a while back, they were in their 50s (I assume). It’s meaningful but is best kept to people who are Buddhist, South Asian, or somehow connected to that philosophy and/or culture.
I'd think of pads and pad me and if I made an assumption at all I'd assume the person was from India or thereabouts.
