I like the cheerful simplicity of Bridget.
Brigitta, Bridie and the awful Bedelia are not to my taste at all.
I very much like Birgit, and a friend has made me somewhat tolerant of Britta, but I wouldn't use it. In fact, I wouldn't use Birgit either, having no German heritage.
I have personally encountered two South Africans named Bridgette, which looks like a horrible hybrid and sounds like Bridget! I've never met a Brigitte locally, but I feel the same way about it as I do about Birgit: excellent in its own habitat but inappropriate for my use.
