Elaine
I met a young Elaine yesterday - she was between three and four. Her older sister was Eleanor.I hadn't really thought of Elaine before then, even though it's the middle name of one of my niece's (Rose Elaine.) Thoughts on it? I'm really liking it.

I love the name Elaine and also Elaina. I've liked the name Elaine ever since I came across it in high school when I was reading a fantasy novel. Although the first time I had come across the name was Seinfeld but I had forgotten about it. I didn't know it was an Arthurian name until I was in college. Then 6 years ago I realized that it is usually considered an "old lady".Lately I've been preferring Elaina but I still love Elaine and I think it works better as a mn than Elaina.I want to add that Elaine and Eleanor are way too similar for siblings. Also I love the name combo Rose Elaine.

I hadn't thought about it either, but it's nice; very balanced-looking, with the two es, and a pleasing sound. Rose Elaine is pretty.
It was in the top 100 here from the 1940s to the 70s, but I've never known or met one.

I think it sounds sweet, but boy, Eleanor and Elaine are REALLY similar for sisters.

I prefer the similar Ellen although Elaine is really nice and I'm partial to the nn Lainie. I'm a little surprised that the parents went there with Eleanor and Elaine. Both girls most likely go by their full names to avoid confusion, however, that may not prevent confusion entirely if their friends decide to call them Ellie, lol.BTW, I really love the flow of Rose Elaine. What a pretty combo.Edited to add that I've never known anyone named Elaine. Maybe I've heard of it in Hollywood, I don't know. It doesn't even seem dated to me because I haven't encountered it much at all anywhere.

Elaine is beautiful! It comes across as elegant but slightly understated in a good way. For me, it is a family name, so that gives it special significance. I also appreciate the Arthurian connection.

Cool! I've never met an Elaine that young. A little too matchy for siblings, but Elaine and Eleanor definitely have a similar feel. Elaine and other -aine names have a nice medeival feel too.

I used to like Elaine more. I thought it was pretty and liked that you could use the nickname Laine if you wanted. More recently though it's started to seem dated. Maybe if I heard it on young child it would remedy that.

I've always liked its medieval flavor---Arthurian and all that. I knew an Elaine in high school who was nice but none too bright. As she's the only Elaine I've ever known, I do think of her when I hear the name, so in addition to medieval and Arthur and all that good stuff, there's a little bit of "bimbo" too.

I get called Elaine as a Eileen, so that ruined by opinion on it. I also think of Seinfeld.

It's one of my friend's mom's names, so I'd feel strange about using it myself but it's a nice sound. It had a nice little jump from 2015 to 2016, I'll be interested to see if that continues. It's kind of between being a mom and a grandma name so it's not getting the traction older names like Eleanor are getting, even though it lends to crazy-popular Ellie really well.It also makes a really good, easy to pair middle, it has that same two-syllable, emphasis-on-the-second rhythm that Marie has.

You stated it perfectly - " It's kind of between being a mom and a grandma name"I confused the hell out of the dad, though. I heard Elaine and Eleanor and without thinking I asked if he was into Arthurian Legends, even though Eleanor isn't used. HE had no idea what I was talking about. :-D

I really like Elaine. It’s my mom’s middle name, so I’m planning on using it, probably as a mn, too.
