I'm writing a science-fiction story where someone from our world is teleported to a different 1940s, where among the differences is a still around Marigold Frances Churchill, Winston Churchill's daughter that died in our home universe.

What do people think of the name Marigold ("Goldie")

I'm fond of it. It has pleasant sounds (I like the G and the D ending and most names with 'mar' in them) and the image of the flower is a beautiful one. It feels current but with roots. It makes me think of Downton Abbey and various hip Catholic families I've known who've chosen the name recently.

Goldie is totally awful but Marigold has a certain period charm. Frances grounds it nicely.

I find it puzzling that after losing Marigold they named their subsequent daughter Mary. In their place I'd have used another name with Marigold as the mn.

There an AH that also has a surviving Marigold Churchill. She goes by Goldie for much of the short story for much the same authorial reasons that characters in shows like The Prisoner use terms such as "the home country" in order to hide their true origins from the audience.

Oh wow, I didn’t realise her full name was Marigold Frances, that’s gorgeous! I adore Marigold (one of my top 10) she’s so bright and cheerful, in sound, feel and associations. I prefer Margo as a nn, but Goldie’s okay.
