Florence for a boy?
Inspired by Felie’s Florence / Fiorenzo thread
I was kind of surprised to learn that Florence has been used as a masculine name before. After thinking about it, I really like it for a boy, paired with a more traditionally masculine middle.
What do you think?
Also what about these combos:
Florence Alonzo
Florence Martin
Florence Gerard
Florence Michael
Florence Robert

Sounds like something a name purist would name their son.
I agree with you, but I’m kind of a name purist. History and meaning are what attracts me to names.
(I’m the OP btw — I just changed my screen name to my real first name)

Floris, which is Dutch and derives from Florentius, is old-fashioned here in South Africa but still usable. I would far prefer it to Florence, which I've actually never seen as a male name other than in Ireland, and I'm willing to bet that it;s not in sue there any more; probably since Florence became popular for girls in the 19th century.
I like it, also it reminds me of Yugioh Abridged where Bakura's real name is Florence! Haha!
Hi !!!
I'm glad!
I love "finding" unusual names so here we are with a masculine name decreased because of its feminine use.
Florence is very unisex imo.
As feminine name it make me feel of Firenze and the famous nurse.
But as masculine name it is in the same style of Laurent or Constantine (names both strong and soft but generally classic).
I quite dislike these combos, sorry.
Alonzo is simply out of style with it.
Robert, Martin and Gerard are boring and they repeat the R too much.
Michael is too common.
How about...
Florence Edwin
Florence Ashley
Florence Constantine
Florence Basil
Florence Austin
Florence August
Florence Benedict
Florence Vivian
Florence Kit
Florence Lyle
Florence Vinnie
Florence Jack
Florence Jamie
Florence Iggy
Florence Hudson
Florence Dustin
Florence Damon
I love these combo...they seem nice with it!
WDYT? Are there anyone that you like?

I don't like it that much. I like Florian though.
