It was the name of the German Shepherd that my family owned when I was a child, but I think I'd still hate it even if I didn't think of it as a dog name. HI-DEE. Ick. Okay for a dog.

I knew a Heidi a few years ago. She was more the friend of a friend than my friend, but I did socialize with her a few times. She did happen to mention that she wasn't really crazy about her name, but she thought it was better than the other name her parents had considered for her, which was Gretchen. I guess they were on a German nickname kick.

There are a good few where I live, mostly with typically German other names: I had a colleague once who was I think Elisabeth Marlene Heidi Dorothea but she went by Heidi and always had.
