I REALLY dislike rhymey names for twins, or really any sibs, but especially twins. Especially if they're THAT close to each other. Having similar sounds or endings isn't so bad depending on the names (e.g. or Luca & Lila, Rowan & Nolan) or a similar theme - if not too overdone/hokey - but different sounds (e.g. Ash & Alder).

Tyra and Lyra are too trendy for my tastes (Tyra Banks and Lyra the character in Pullman's books are what I think about with those two. I'd like Lyra more if I just thought of the constellation. I also don't like that it sounds like "lie" as in lying.)

I think it's pretty lame, and also dated, like a holdover from the days when you might not know you were having twins till you had them. (My stepfather was a twin born in 1950 and his mother knew ahead of time, so that's a pretty long while ago.)
I like Kyra, but spell it Kira, it's my niece's name. The others I don't like at all, and I'm unclear whether they're to be pronounced all the same way.
I say Kyra as Keera, same as Kira. Lyra as Leera, I think. Myra and Tyra as Meye-ra and Ty-ra.
Tyra feels very flash in the pan eighties or early nineties. Myra feels cranky old-maid aunt.

It's not cute at all to give twins similar names. I always feel like twins with similar names often get treated as one person in two bodies, which tends to drive them crazy.

I went to school with a pair of identical twins named Mario and Mariano and people always treated them like one person in two bodies rather than two separate people. It annoyed the crap out of them. The two of them actually have very little in common besides appearance. They have very different personalities (Mario is very social and outgoing, while Mariano is more of a loner). They even have different favorite colors (Mario's favorite color is green; Mariano's favorite color is purple). Funnily enough, they actually liked telling people the differences between them.

It's silly. When I was 8 I thought that Patricia and Alicia would be great for twins for that reason.

I think it's a very silly idea. It'll stop being cute and start being a nuisance as soon as they are old enough to respond to their names. How old is your friend? It sounds like a pregnant teenager's bright idea.

That said, the only name on the list that I even slightly like is Myra. If she wants a strong link between the girls, she could go the anagram route and have Myra and Mary. Or pick some other names that rhyme but not quite so intrusively: Bronwen, Helen, Karen, Susan ... Or perhaps she might settle for names with similar or identical meanings: Anne and Grace; Phoebe and Diana; Janet and Joanna.

I am sorry but this is bollocks. The identical twins will want differ from herself.
Despite the fact that they will confuse your friend.

Please encourage her not to give her twins rhyming names. Expressing yourself as an individual instead of being thought of as part of a set is difficult enough when you're a twin. They're human beings, not a matching handbag and shoe combo.

Somethings with opposite or similar meanings might be cute. I like Lyra and Myra, but maybe Kira would work?

No, it's not cute at all. Twins are still separate people and most twins go on to live adult lives that are no different from, and no closer than, the lives of average non-twin siblings. It's like a label and an expectation from birth. I know that some twins feel a special connection with their twin, but others don't. Match-y or rhyming names seems to be forcing the idea that being a twin will always be a huge part of their identity and it may not be and they should decide that for themselves. I wouldn't like having a name that I knew was chosen because it made a cute part of a set instead of being chosen specifically for me alone.

I think its quite disrespectful to your twins/children to give them such matchy names, Twins have enough trouble with separating themselves from their sibling without their parents treating them as if they are a singular entity. I feel like it's saying "you're not an individual" and is more interested in being cute than fostering an individual human's identity.

Terrible idea. I had friends who were not twins just sisters named Keya and Allyiah, and when their mother called them the part that carried sounded the same and they always both responded. I don't get why twins are named differently from anny other siblings, but if they're going to be it makes more sense to share a starting letter and let endings be dissimilar.

From that list I would do Lyra and Myra. I think the names have distinct feels even though they rhyme and Lyra is actually quite pretty. My son's best friend at preschool is Lyra.
