"Dear friend"?Cher ami means "dear (male) friend" in French. All I can think is that this would be a difficult name to have around anyone who speaks French - particularly for a female bearer.Edit: I see others have pointed out the "dear friend" thing.

Yeah, but people are totally at home with Bellamy and Bonamy! Logically, then, why not? Just because it's unfamiliar?

I don't know of any women or girls named Bellamy or Bonamy (the latter is a name I've never even heard). But in the case of Bellamy, that could also be in honor of a surname.

Like the French phrase cher ami, which means "dear (male) friend"?Sorry, but as a name it just doesn't work. It also reminds me of the cleanser Bon Ami, and if it's really a Japanese name it sounds like a fish, one you either eat or keep for looks.

Hi !!!Cherami is interesting but... I would be masculine isn't it?As feminine name it should be Chèreamie.I think that both could be nice on a fictional character but too funny on a real person. Cherí and Chérie would suit better.
