Sunniva is lovely! I pronounce it soo-NEE-vah, though I'm told in Norway the emphasis is on the first syllable.Once, a long time ago, I had a dream where I had twin girls named Sunniva & Solveig (the latter pronounced the Swedish way: SOOL-vay), which I still think sound awesome together!

I think it's nice and has a beautiful meaning, but I prefer forms Sunneva and especially Synnöve / Synnøve.

While I love the name's meaning and aura, I can't appreciate the name itself because I always think of "son of a b****."

Yes! This.Despite how it’s supposed to be pronounced, all it takes is one teacher to mistakenly call out “SUN-uh-vuh” at roll call and it’s a lifelong problem.

Isn't it pronounced "sue-NEE-va" though?
"SUN-iv-a" sounds terrible, I agree.

No, it's more like SOON-ee-vuh.

Yes, that's the pronunciation, but whenever I see Sunniva, my brain reverts to "son of a." :(

I always thought it was pronounced su-NEE-va? That would avoid the “son of a” problem.

No, it sounds more like SOON-ee-vuh.

I didn’t know that. That honestly makes me like this name a LOT less. SOON-ee-vuh doesn’t really have a sound I like.

wow, we were actually thinking and typing the same thing at the same time. Weird.

same.

It's okay, but it sounds like a brand name to me.

I love it. It's been in my Top 10 before. Sunny is an adorable nickname for a child and ok for an adult if they have the right personality. I also like it with nn Niva or Neve.

I like Sunniva a lot, and Sunny is a sweet nickname. Are you saying SOO-nee-va or sun-EE-va?

Love it!!Yes! I absolutely love Sunniva, and Sunny (or Sunni) is the perfect nn for it. The meaning is also splendid.

I love Sunniva. I also think Sunny is a cute nickname but I think the full name is great in its own right. The sort of difficult pronunciation for English speakers is really the only reason I'd hesitate to use it.I actually was babysitting once and saw that they had a Christmas card on their fridge from a family with daughters named Sunnifa and Violet, and I thought that was interesting, both because I'd never heard of anyone with any variation of this name before, and that there was such a popularity discrepancy between the two names.

It's gorgeous! And I love the meaning, too.

I kinda like it, in a GP way. I'd never use it because not English, but I like it!
