Re: Mara

Mara is my 23-year-old niece's name. My sister agonized over her name, wanting something not too popular and not trendy but also not strange and accessible. With that criteria, I think Mara was a good choice. I think it's a nice enough name. I'm not head over heels in love with it, and I wouldn't use it myself, but it's fairly pretty and there's nothing objectionable about it.
My niece's middle name is Emily. That's because Emily had been my sister's favorite name for a long time, but she rejected it as a first name because of its popularity. However, I don't think that Mara Emily flows too well. Because Mara ends in a vowel and Emily starts with a vowel, it's awkward, in my opinion. The same can be said for Mara Elizabeth, actually.
I was going to try to make combos using names from my PNL, but then I found that there are few on my PNL that don't start with A, B, C, M, or R and also sound good with Mara. I think the best middle name for Mara would be two syllables, not start with a vowel, and not end in an A.
