Re: Two Hebrew Names
in reply to a message by Olwen
I'm so-so about Rachel. It has a certain vibe that I find attractive, and being Biblical is a plus. On the other hand, it's a little harsh. End result is neutrality. There are a lot of Naomi fans here, but I've never seen the appeal. There's something too exotic-sounding about it that is off-putting to me. It doesn't help that it was the name of the cleaning lady that my family employed back when I was a teenager, and she's the only Naomi I've ever known. Nothing was wrong with her, but nobody wants the first words to pop into your head when you hear a name to be "cleaning lady".I say Naomi "nie-O-mee", not "nay-O-mee", the way most people do. I can't say the "nay-O-mee" pronunciation. I don't mean that I literally can't say it, but it's just not intuitive to me and I have to make a mental effort to say it. I like the name slightly more the way that I say it.
