Lola
It looked like this was becoming really popular at one point but for some reason people don't seem to like it as much anymore. Do you like Lola? Why didn't it get popular? Too much of a bar/show girl association?

I like it, but I'm kinda sick of seeing it being discussed on the opinion boards. It seems like it's discussed here at least once a week.
I think it's a nice sounding name and it looks good too imo. The only issue I have with the name and it's a big one, is the meaning. Not a nice meaning at all, so that's what would put me off using it.
I like Lola. Short and sweet with plenty of energy and light. It's popular enough where I live that it's on my 'too popular' guilty pleasure list, but I have seen comments that it sounds too juvenile for an adult (I disagree).
It's too cutsey for me, I don't much like it.
It's ugly; it tries so hard to be sexy but it's such a dated, tacky kind of sexy. Big hefty woman in jeans too tight, spiky red heels, huge sprayed-out hair dyed either platinum blonde or dead-black, cigarette dangling, dragon-lady fingernails, makeup thick as paint, laughing too loud at nothing much in bars hoping some man will buy her next drink. Ugh.
It does have a lot of controversial pop culture references. A showgirl, a transgender individual and a victim of statutory rape (Lolita wasn't the only nickname the character in the novel commonly used). Frankly, I was baffled when it seemed like it was gaining steam. I'm glad it didn't.
It used to be my nickname, given to me by my brother who couldn't say Laura when he was small. My name isn't Laura anymore (thank goodness!) but I still rather like Lola. I think it's got a good bit of sass and a lot of energy in four simple letters. I'm thinking you got it right as to why it's not popular though. I'd use it in it's traditional sense: as a nickname for Delores. I love Delores!

I always think of that song, "whatever Lola wants, Lola gets..." Not bad, but perhaps a bit Santa Baby, whiney, gimme gimme spoiled, entitled woman sort of feeling. But then, on the other hand I love it and think its cute and sweet and underused but can't see it on anyone except a baby and a leather skinned woman taking long drags of her cigarette wearing blue eyeshadow saying things like, "Honey, I'll tell you about them days."
I think you hit it right on the head there. It always gives me an earworm of that Kinks song (which isn't necessarily bad...I had it on my iTunes at one point *blushes*) But I still wouldn't use it, because I like a whole lot of other names way better!
