I would go for Oonagh or Clodagh and I wouldn't change the spelling. I don't think it would cause any difficulty here in the UK
I don't really hold with spelling names phonetically to make them 'easier', so no. I think it takes away from the heritage of a name.

Ooh I forgot about Clodagh. I think it's really lovely, and I don't think it would be that troublesome even in the US.
