Amelie is a bit trendy here, usually pronounced AM-a-lee. I prefer Amalie.

Amelie is the name of a girl I know, who's from London. Her English A sound in Amelie is not quite the same as the A sounds we make around here. The closest I can get is to rhyme it with camel-ee (often comes out rhyming family). I'm told that most of the Americans at school pronounce it AH-muh-lee, approximately to rhyme homily. Amelie's mother says something in-between - but IMO closer to camel-ee than to 'omily. She doesn't always put any emphasis on the ee, either.Anyway the name is nice, but it's a little frustrating to pronounce in English. And no matter how we say it, it isn't different enough from Emily to be worth the trouble IMHO.I'd rather meet an Emily than an Amelie, and I'd rather meet an Emilia than an Amelia.
Amelie vs Amelia ... I dunno, I guess I'll vote for Amelie, as long as it's AM-elie and nobody's pronouncing it to rhyme with homily because that sounds ugly to me in English.

I prefer Amélie in English, but Amelia in my native Language. They're all nice names though.

I love Amélie! I'd spell it with accent. Yes, it won't get used sometimes (my MN has an accent) but you can write it in a lot too. Amelie is nice but feels like it's missing something. For some reason I can't stand Emily or Amelia, however.

I know 1 Amélie, 2 Amelie s and one or the other was pretty widely used as a mn among my friends. It was a very popular film!!! I like it, but it's a little bit bland. Prefer Emily of all

I love Amélie, but Amelie feels like it's missing something. I would doubt how to pronounce Amelie, and with Amélie I'd be sure. I don't like Emily at all. If you're an English speaker I'd say Amelia to avoid confusion.

I far prefer Emily; in fact, I prefer it to most names.Amelia is too frilly and that long ME-E_E sound is displeasing.Amelie without the accent makes little sense, and with the accent it's fine in French-speaking places.

I don't like it. Its just always sounded incomplete and kind of odd to me...Prefer Amelie to Amélie. Prefer Emily to both of them!

I like Amelie, with or without the accent. In fact, a young girl age about 8, named Amelie(with accent) lives up the street from us. I prefer Amelie, then Emily. Not very fond of Amelia.

I think Amelie is beautiful. I would spell it Amelie, as I live in Australia and we don't often have accents over names. Amelie is my fave of all the names listed.

I used to love Amelie. I would definitely spell it without the accent. Right now:
1. Emily.
2. Amelie.
3. Amelia. However, usually Amelie is number 1, haha.

I think Amelie is very pretty, but with the popularity of Emily and Emma these last few years, it's one I wouldn't personally use.I would spell it without the accent. There will be so many times (forms, etc) where she won't be able to use it anyway.
