Hazel or Athena? (more)
These two have been on my mind a lot lately. Which do you prefer and why? Hazel or Athena?

Hazel. The goddess connection to Athena ruins it for me.

Athena. I'm not really into the Athena vibe because of association with war, but Hazel is sort of ugly and small to me, and I'd rather be Athena.

I prefer Hazel. It has a much prettier sound to me. q

I love the name Hazel, it's great, it's timeless and it's a little bit quirky. Athena I don't mind, though I wouldn't use it.

Athena is my preference. neither is a favorite, but I love the sisdom aspevt of the name and it is beautiful. Hazel is nice, but is a bit of an ugly duckling, and I don't like the zull sound it eends with.Hazel Athena would be a pretty rad combo.

Hazel.
It's possible I prefer it just because it's more familiar.
but Athena is ok.

Hazel has always seemed to lack style and felt frumpy to me. Athena is exotic and beautiful. Neither is my style yet I'd have to go with Athena here.

Totally Athena. Hazel always made me think of Witch Hazel.

I prefer Athena, no contest. Hazel has a dowdy, middle-aged or old lady vibe to me. And it's not even a particularly nice colour. Athena on the other hand has a spunky, fresh vibe to me. A good meaning/namesake.

Athena, because of the sound and the meaning. Athena is my favorite Greek goddess.

Athena. I think it's feminine and pretty while also being strong. I don't like Hazel.

I love Hazel and I either love or like Athena.I love that Hazel seems feminine but not overly. I love most nature names because I love being out in nature so the names remind me of my happy place. Most nature names for girls are flowers and as much as I love flowers I think tree names feel less cutesy and are more hip. Also Hazel has both a fresh and a vintage vibe which I love, also Hazel feels witchy. It is getting fairly popular but I doubt it will ever get into the top 25 so I would still be willing to use it. I would love to name a future daughter Hazel but unfortunately last time I asked my husband he hated it. Maybe some day he will change his mind but I doubt it.I knew a few Hazel's and Athena's when I was in high school and middle school. Athena is one of the more popular goddess names. I definitely like it and I have no issues with the name. Athena was a cool goddess but I just don't like the name as much as Hazel or Artemis or Iris. I think I love the name Athena rather than like it because I love Freya and I think I care for them about as much as eachother. With how popular Freya is in Europe and how popular it is likely to become in the US I feel like I'd be more likely to use Athena even though I like them about the same. A long time ago my husband mentioned liking the name Athena so I bet if he was asked this question he'd choose Athena.

Athena. I think it's far more interesting, strong, and I like the imagery it has. I like the goddess connection too. I don't have anything against Hazel, but it does have a slightly whiny sound I think, and just doesn't match up to Athena.

Hazel. I don't like the sound of AthenaHazel is a gorgeous name

Hazel. Athena feels heavy to me for some reason. I like the sounds in Hazel better.

I like both, but I prefer Hazel. I like how retro-chic Hazel is. Athena is a little too....I don't know, I think ponderous is the word I'm looking for. Hazel is more fun.

In a straight fight between an old witch and a fighter-goddess who also sponsors embroidery, it's got to be Athena. Also because I dislike the hazy sound and look of Hazel.
