Re: Serenity

I don't like it. It's not as bad as Felicity, but has some of the same problems. Sounding like a cutesy chant. Being a noun not for a virtue, but a sort of prissy state-of-mind goal. It has an inherent irony. Serenity connotes continence, sphincter control. So its use as a name for adult diapers (or spaceships) seems more appropriate to me than its use as a name for a person.
It's better than Felicity, because it has all fashionable sounds and decent nicknames. It would not bother me to call someone Serenity in real life. But I don't see why someone would prefer Serenity over Serena, which evokes the idea "serene" in a way that's not so hokey, and also sounds like a person's name.
