I associate it with the several English kings of that name.
I really like Edward, but only pronounced in English. The Swedish pronounciation, which is more like AYD-vard, isn't really my style. But Edward in English is lovely. It makes me think of a beautiful gentleman from a Victorian novel - or a teddy bear! As a child I had a book called Tilly's House (Tildas hus in Swedish) in which a doll house doll befriended a gentle teddy bear called Edward.
It's my grandpa and my uncle's name. Maybe it's because they always go by Ed/Eddy, I don't instantly think of them when I hear the name. I'm pretty neutral towards it.
Edward was my least favorite Uncle's name. That's what I associate Edward with first. After that, Ted Kennedy (Believe it or not). I always wondered how they got Ted from Edward as a kid. I know it's probably because T(ed) was more amenable to him than simply Ed. 'Twilight' is my third association. I still really like Edward in spite of everything.
