The late wife of a professor I had in college was Shane. He always apoke her name with such affection when telling old stories that it was hard not to absorb a bit of the positive feeling. She would have been born in the late 40s or early 50s I would guess, so it doesn't feel like part of the current boy to girl name exodus to me. I think its similarity to Jane makes it work. Shanie is super cute.
