Elspeth
When a pre-teen, I was fascinated by the short story "Fireworks for Elspeth" by Rumer Godden.Do you like Elspeth or does it sound like spitting to you?

It's ok, but I much prefer Elizabeth. I'd never use Elspeth.

My cousin was engaged to a woman named Elspeth. She was crazy. She was huge - 300lbs+ - and just obnoxious. Before her I had picttured a tall, thin, Scottish woman with the name, now all i can think of is her.

I love Elspeth! It's a family name for me. A Great Aunt on my Pop's side. My Grandfather's sister. i have it in a hopeful combo in my sig.

I like it a lot; probably because the only Elspeth people I've ever known were young and beautiful and lively and nice! And the name is a quicker and more convenient spin-off of Elizabeth, which can't be bad. You're right, it's not the kind of name one would wish to say into a strong wind, but how often does that happen? I've never actually considered it as an option, which is odd in a way. Maybe now?

I don't love or dislike Elspeth. It's okay, but I much prefer Elizabeth. I like Elsie though, which feels slightly more natural as an Elspeth nickname, although it could be used for Elizabeth, or on its own.

I love Elspeth! Its lispy sibilance is its best feature for me.

I really like Elspeth. It's down to earth, no nonsense, strong and with the -th ending I love. I actually had it as a middle for my first name combo years ago, because it was my old headmistresses' name and she was really cool and eccentic haha.

I know an Elspeth. I think it's quite cool....much nicer than the alternative Elspat anyway

Elspat isn't good! "Did you and Dave have a fight?"
"No, just a kittle elspat."

I really like it. I think it's really cute and sweet, but not overly so. Still has backbone.
