Vervain is the drug/herb that weakens vampires in the TV series The Vampire Diaries which I have watched since I was a kid so my huge association with that kind of ruins it as a name for me.If I didn't have that association though I'm still not sure I think the sound of it. I get the aversion to "vain" I just don't see how it's much different than names like Sylvain, Madeline (mad), Mallory (mal), Neville (evil), Obadiah (bad), Sadie (sad) or even Cassius (which means vain). Would it look better as Vervaine?

It looks better to me as Vervaine. That softens the whole feel of it. :)
