So interesting bc I would have thought Maia sounds more like a 'complete' name, where I'm afraid I'll always we asked what Lucy is short for.
Oh no! I think of Lucy as being complete. I've known a few Lucys, and never known one to get that question. I know of a baby Lucianna just born, but she's an exception -- and called Lulu, anyway.
My sister, whose name is Lucy, has definitely been asked whether her name is short for Lucille or something else, but I don't think it's a big deal. Her name was also quite uncommon when she was born (1980) and growing up, but now Lucy is high enough in the charts that people may not expect it to be short for something longer.
I agree - Lucy seems a perfectly complete name I was really surprised to find out how many of the Lucys I knew were actually Lucindas.
