Robyn, Robbie, Robin

I feel that it makes more sense to shorten the name Roberta than it does to shorten Robyn. However, keep in mind that your child may not want to be nicknamed that particular nickname (or at all), so I would pick the full name you like best and go from there.

Definitely Roberta. Far from being timeless, Robyn is part of the Let's-stick-a-y-in-because-y-is-so-feminine movement, so if you want a minor modification, try Robin. Which can easily be a nn for Robert and therefore Roberta, so maybe Roberta would be a better choice with more options.

I love Robyn (Robin)! Beautiful. I don't like either nn much but I prefer Robbie over Bertie! I like Robin a lot more.

I dig it. I like Roberta a ton more than Robyn. My great-grandmother was Alberta "Bert" and I've always had a thing for Bert names. I imagine Robyn would be easier to live with, at least where I've lived. It has a less somewhat younger vibe.

I would use Roberta. It has a lot more going for it. Robin is better than Robyn but they are both pretty dated.

I prefer Roberta. It reminds me of the book "The Railway Children", which I really liked when I was a kid (there is a Roberta in the book).

Roberta used to be on my list for a long time, it held a place in the Top Ten for quite a while. I used to picture it with the nickname "Bo", neither Robbie nor Bertie do it for me personally.

I actually just thought about Roberta yesterday! I used to absolutely hate it. I thought it was clumsy, dated and unattractive. Lately I've been thinking that it's kind of cute even though I would prefer it as a middle name. I currently like Lily Roberta.

I'm sorry, but I really dislike Robbie to be honest. I don't think it is cute at all and it destroys the beauty of Roberta, in my opinion. I would stick with the full form. But if you like it go for it!

Robin is kind of cute but I consider it to be way more dated than Roberta. Robin was much more common than Roberta ever was and much more recently. Roberta is in the -could have a revival soon together with names like Elaine, Maxine and Lucille- category whereas Robin is in the -totally dated Stacy, Jamie, Dawn, Donna, Misty- category. I don't mind Robyn, but it's like Rachael, Caitlyn, Alyson and Ashlee - not horribly misspelled or anything but I think it's less attractive than the original and feels even more dated.

I prefer Roberta because Robyn is still so dated to me. But Robyn is cute too and it's nice that you want to honor your mom! So I think Robyn probably has more meaning to you and I would go with that. But I would personally change the spelling to Robin even though Robyn is fine too.

Roberta is better. I dislike Robyn and imagine Robin as a boy, how about Robertine?

Sorry, I will say Robbie and Bertie are both masculine in my view. I think Robyn / Robin doesn't need a nn. Berta / Betta / bettie for Roberta maybe?

I don't like either, but if I had to choose, I'd pick Roberta. I just like its sound slightly more than I do the sound of Robyn. I think that it would be better also, because it would honor both your mother and grandfather. If I had to pick between Robbie or Bertie as a nickname, I'd definitely pick Robbie, because I don't like the "bert" sound at all. It's why I don't like Robert. Normally I'd prefer the Robin spelling, but if you were to go with Robin / Robyn to honor your mother, I think you should use the spelling she does.

Robyn, NN Robbie sounds better to me. Roberta is so heavy and thick, and not the least bit appealing, IMO. Go with Robyn.

I much prefer Roberta -- so brassy! I like Bertie more for a boy than for a girl, but it's definitely cute. I think I prefer Robbie (or Robby).
