Confidence and Rea
1. I heard of the name Confidence yesterday on a male college student from South Africa. I kind of like it (though wouldn't use it). 2. Have you ever heard of the name "Ray/Rae" being spelled Rea? A friend of mine just had a baby named Rea (pronounced Ray) and I just can't get used to it. I keep wanting to call her "Ree-uh."

Confidence - too high-brow for me, similar to Condoleeza or MontserratRea - this name has a high degree of popularity in Germany, because of the great singer/songwriter Rea Garvey (actually Raymond Michael/originally from Ireland)
(he also has a relatively large media presence here)

Confidence sounds weirdly like some product for old people, like a bladder control undergarment, or maybe one of those personal alarms for when they fall and can't get up.I've seen Rea, pronounced Ray, as a last name a couple times. As a first name it looks like a typo of Rae.

Confidence only makes me wanna sing "I've got confidence in sunshine...I've got confidence in rain..."Rea pronounced Ray just looks wrong. I would pronounce it Ree-ah or Ray-ah in English. But I would spell it Rhea, since "rea" means "sale" in Swedish.

Totally agree about Rea. I've only known one Confidence person, and that was a woman a long time ago. She was a laundry worker, and very reliable. I suppose it could shorten to Connie.

I can actually imagine Confidence on a girl, NN Connie, but it's too "out there" for me. Rea - isn't that how Chris Rea spells his last name? I would definitely pronounce it as per Ria. I really like Ria, as a NN for Rhiannon or Victoria, or on its own.
