Bleah. It was so popular on its own in the US in the 1970s that it's so dated to me. On its own, it's insubstantial. And I was never sure whether to pronounce it like the word "carry" or so that the first syllable sounds like the word "care".
I did know a Carrie who was a little girl when I knew her, back in the 80s. She was a friend of my niece's. I'm just not wild about it, but I'd much rather see it as a nickname for Caroline than on its own.
