Eleanor & Zelda ...
WDYT of the names Eleanor / Elinor & Zelda for girls?
I've really started to like both of them, however do you think that it would be confusing to have an Eleanor when I already have a niece named Ella and to have a Zelda when my SIL's name is Velda?
Remember that we're a close family so we would be around one another all the time.
Just for fun how do Eleanor Ruth / Elinor Ruth & Zelda Ruth sound?

I like Eleanor and Zelda a lot. Zelda Ruth sound fabulous! Having and Ella and an Eleanor / Elinor might be a bit of a problem as they will both, no doubt, be called Elle from time to time. Velda and Zelda are also similiar, but considering they wouldn't be in the same age group, it would be less of a problem, I think.

I think Eleanor is lovely, but I find Zelda to be rather ugly. I don't find it at all feminine. Then again, I don't care for any "Z" names - especially female "Z" names.
No, I don't think it'd be confusing if, hypothetically speaking, Eleanor and Ella were cousins. They are completely different names to me. And even if they were alike, I wouldn't find it a problem since their relationship would be (close) cousins and not siblings.
I don't even think an in-law's name should be taken into account when naming your child. Personally, I don't think those things should even be considered (re: Zelda and Velda).
Close ore not, nothing like that should stop you from using a name you like/love.
As for the combos, I do think Zelda Ruth flows, but not Eleanor Ruth. The ending "r" or Eleanor and the beginning "R" of Ruth run into each other.

Eleanor is a favorite of mine. To settle the nickname question, I'd say that you could use it, but call her something besides Ella. I've always thought Lenore/ Lenora and Nora sound pretty. And, I like both Eleanor and Elinor, but I'd use Eleanor.
Zelda is pretty, but the confusion with Velda might be confusing. I suppose it could work as a MN but then what FN would you use? Maybe you could use Griselda instead and call her Zelda?
I love Eleanor Ruth, and Zelda Ruth is pretty as well.

I absolutely love them both, but I prefer Elenor and Elenore to Eleanor and Elinor. Zelda I find especially attractive; while it was always on my long list, I never thought too much about it before you suggested it to me. :)
I think that if your Eleanor was a Nell or a Nora (or a Lennie!), it wouldn't be confusing at all to have Eleanor and Ella. As for Zelda and Velda...if you like Velda, you could play off the similarity as an homage to her! ;D Otherwise, I honestly don't think it's too confusing--Z and V have very different sounds. If it was Belda or Felda you liked, there would be significant possibilities of mixups, but Zelda doesn't seem too bad.
Zelda could be Zella or Zellie or Zel or Zed or Zeddie or Zedda as well as being Zelda, if nothing else.
I like Zelda Ruth, but I think that the R's in Eleanor and Ruth run into each other--not that that's necessarily a huge problem, says the girl who likes Elenore Rae! Ruth Eleanor would be darling, too.

I love Eleanor! It's gorgeous and fairly underused. The Elinor spelling bugs me.
Eleanor and Ella is not that bad. Just don't nickname her Ellie or anything. Eleanor Ruth runs together because of the double Rs, but otherwise I love it.
I hate Zelda. Sorry, I can't help it. It just sounds harsh and reminds me of the character from the video game. Zelda Ruth is nice, though.
