Re: Finnish BAs

I like Nikolas too! I was also glad to see a Nikolai: it's probably my favorite Russian name.
I haven't seen many Taavettis, but I get your point: Juhani, Tapani, Olavi and other i-ending names are very common as MNs, so maybe Taavetti will be popular too in near future.
I agree about Aleksandra: "ks" is so much better than "x" in the Finnish context. Same with Eleonoora (or Eleonora): as a Finnish person's FN it somehow feels too pompous, but as a MN it's OK.
For me, Ruska is not only feminine but a dog's name! It's my grandparents' cocker spaniel's name, which has an influence on my opinion.
If I remember correctly, Leonie and Emelie's mother is Swedish-speaking but they shared their father's Finnish surname (might have been a "-nen" name, but not Möttönen!).
I do live in a bilingual city (Turku), but these announcements are from "Helsingin Sanomat". Well, there are Swedish-speaking people in Helsinki as well, maybe that explains the amount of Swedish names in these announcements?

Ah, Helsingin Sanomat, that does explain it!
We thought about naming our male dog Ruska but ended up not doing that because he's white and it seemed wrong. :)
