I love it! If I felt it wasn't just outside the realm of acceptable names for me to use, then my Alexander might be an Alastair. :)
I'd assume in the US most people just think of it as a fairly cliché Scottish name. I've encountered a few little boy Alastairs though and it's SO CUTE and also handsome on an adult, I've just never met one.
