Scholastica
So today's name-of-the-day is Scholastica.
WDYT?
Is it usable? Charming? Or something that should stay in Ancient Rome?

Not usable as a first name, and a bit iffy as a middle name - unless it had significant meaning to the user or was a family name. It's too clunky and cold.
Rather like Virginia, it seems to honour a quality which is no longer greatly valued.
Where I live, it wouldn't work because 'skollie' is the word for gangster, juvenile (or older ...) delinquent, petty criminal etc. and the obvious nn, Lassie, isn't much better!

I do not like it, too much to say.
The similarity to "scholastic" makes it pretty odd to see as a name! Probably not usable on a child (definitely not in the first name slot), but I'd get a kick out of seeing it in fiction.
Faaaabulous name, Scholastica. Love it. Scholastica Irene is my combo for it.
And just for fun: Scholastica Judy Kay Sian (= scholastic adjudication). Sorry. Can't resist.
Nn Coco or Scout? :0)

I love it in theory, but not in practice. I'd be delighted to see it on a fictional character, but I'd wince to see it on a little girl. Far too much of a mouthful for a young kid, and what nickname are her peers supposed to use? None I can think of that wouldn't be likely to result in a good bit of teasing. Not worth it.
I could *maybe* give it a pass as a daring middle name, with the right combo. But I'd be wary.

I like it in a GP sort of way. I think it is totally unusable.
I think it's totally cool but maybe a bit much for a given name. Maybe more middle name territory.
It's cool but it should stay in ancient Rome. It is really fun to say though. Scholastica! Scholastica!
I knew a Scholastica. She was an LVN at the care home where I worked. She was a very serious, stalwart kind of person. It would be funny if she grew up to be an airhead.
Not usable. It reminds me of the Scholastic book fairs they'd have in elementary school.
I remember a point in time where it seemed most of BTN loved this name on some level. It's a bit much for a first name, but a good guilty pleasure or fun middle name. Not one of my personal favorite hefty Roman names but still neat.
I love how cumbersome it is.
Yes!!
It doesn't sound like a name at all, but like encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia Britannica Scholastica or something like that.
Yeah, it reminds me of Scholastic, the publisher of children's books. A lot of my textbooks at school were from Scholastic.

It should stay firmly in Ancient Rome, if you ask me. It sounds far too much like 'school', which is something no child should ever be named after.
Edit: it also sounds like 'elastic' - again, not something you'd want associated with your name.
