Rebecca
Does Rebecca sound slightly dated to you? I think it has a very beautiful sound. Opinions of Rebecca? Do you like Rebekah, Rebeca, Rebekka, Rebecka, Rebeka?

I see the name Rebecca as timeless and classic. Some will think it's dated and boring, but to me it's one of those names that is consistently around and familiar, because it's classic. I like Rebecca and Rebekah.

I don't think Rebecca is dated at all! Okay, maybe a little, but not so much that I wouldn't use it. I prefer the classic spelling, and Becca as a nickname. Becky is nice, too, though.

Rebecca will never really be out of style. I think it's very pretty, that spelling is fine. I don't care for the nns Becky or Becca because they sound babyish.

I know more under-25 Rebeccas and Rebecas than older ones, but don't really think of it as 'a 90s name', because it's not uncommon on older people too. I like it, it's somehow quite fancy and lush without being frilly. I've seen a few Welsh BAs for just Beca fairly recently: that and Becs seem more common as an nn here than Becky.

It is my name and I love it, but it is dated in my opinion. I was named Rebecca as it declined in popularity. I prefer it spelled Rebecca, but I'm biased. In response to Becky becoming a joke of a name, it's true. I can't tell you how much I've heard, "Oh my God, Becky, look at her butt," over the course of my life. Because the song has become somewhat iconic if only for how outrageous it is, and given it's resurrection with Nicki Minaj, no one has forgotten that line. It's a name for the stereotypical white valley girl. There are other songs that have turned Becky into a less than flattering moniker. One referred to Becky as a sex act, and Beyonce's line, "Call Becky with the good hair," has started a whole new line of jokes people like to toss my way.Stick with Rebecca, in my opinion! :)

I'm sorry you get so many irritating comments. I've only known one Becky, and she's quite serious and intellectual and kind.

I take it in stride! It's almost never meant in a harmful way, it's just hard to treat it like it's new every time someone says it. I know a few women who go by Becky, and they're all very much unlike the 'Becky' portrayed in songs and TV.

It's always been one of my favorite names, but I do think it's dated. Even if a name is classic and/or Biblical, Rebecca being both, I still think it can be dated if it had a rise and then a fall in popularity in the past. In fact, its popularity at the time was one reason I rejected it when I had my daughter---I wanted to avoid a name that would one day be dated.I prefer the tried and true Rebecca spelling.

It's a classic, solid name -- as long as Becky isn't used. Becky is becoming a joke name this decade.I much prefer the spelling Rebekah. Reb is a cute nickname option; I've known Rebs and it wore nicely on them.

I'm curious as to how/why Becky is becoming a joke name?

Likely just with younger generations, but look up "Becky with the good hair". This use of the name has led towards 'Becky' being used as a pejorative. It's especially common on the internet.
