Ariel
I can't believe it's happened, but I've recently fallen for Ariel - on a girl. It's so Disney princessy that I feel I should turn my nose up at it...but I can't. It's just very ethereal and lovely. What do the rest of you think? Any mn combos?

I like it for a girl as well! But I also love Aurora and Anastasia. I'm into princessy names :) I know two boys named this and no girls, but I much prefer it on a girl. One of the boys I know named this is from South America the other one isn't from the US either but I hardly know him so I don't know exactly where he is from, but I think a Spanish speaking country.
I also like Arielle, but Ariel looks nicer. I used to love Ariella but now find it a bit much. I think in the US it is way more common for girls and also a bit late 80s/early 90s dated but not very much so. I wonder if it can make a comeback.

An Ariel (AHR-ee-el) currently attends the preschool I work at. She's often called 'Ari'. It suits her, and I don't often think of the Disney association now that I know her.
Ariel Edith (tones down the princess feel)
Ariel Elena (if you like repeating sounds)
Ariel Ingrid
Ariel Marguerite
Ariel Violet
(nb - I did these combos for the AHR-ee-el prn)
I'll add some for AIR-ee-el prn:
Ariel Edith still works
Ariel Naomi
Ariel Ramona
Ariel Rosamund
Ariel Seraphine (maybe my fave?)

For an instant antidote to the Disney princess notion, try Googling Ariel Sharon!
Ethereal, maybe ... but Ariel in The Tempest seems more male than female, though with that kind of magical life form it can be hard to tell. I find it trendy and sentimental, not a mixture I favour; but plenty of people do.

Don't worry, I know who Ariel Sharon is! :) I prn the male name AH-ree-uhl, though, so it isn't a problem for me.
Ariel in The Tempest is kind of weird, in that he seems male but was played by a young boy, who usually played the female characters in Shakespearean times since women weren't allowed onstage. I think the name can be feminine.
