I am not Italian but in America people get named things like Fox or Wolf or Hawk or Lark or Rain or River or Rowan. Most people here assume you are probably a hippie or an environmentalist or something along those lines. As someone who doesn't view it as a negative to be thought of in that manner I would have no problems with using any of those names. I don't know if in Italy there would be that same stereotype.If it was me choosing I'd definitely choose Leone. I much prefer the sound and the fact that it has more substance than Leo. Plus Leo almost as much means lion as Leone. People in Italy will probably automatically connect Leo with lions anyway so in that regard there isn't much difference. You shuld just go with the one you prefer.
