Margaret
I have a grandmother named Margaret (who ALWAYS goes by Peg), so I am familiar with this name. A cousin of mine was named after her, and is called Maggie. I have heard of Margaret being shortened to Maisie, wdyt? Does the nn make sense to you, and do you like Maisie as a nn to Margaret? Thanks :)ETA- Margaret Olivia? Margaret Ophelia? Suggestions or comments? Thanks :)

I adore Margaret, it's such a spunky name and has so many great nicknames. Unfortunately I can't use it for family reasons. *sigh*Margaret Ophelia is great. I think the too-popular Olivia drags it down a bit.Just about anything works with Margaret! My late great-aunt was Edith Margaret "Peggy".

Brogan, Margaret is lovely! I don't care for the nns, though. Maggie seems harsh, and though there is not a thing wrong with Maisie- That's what I named my calico kitten when I was five, and now she has grown into a beautiful and rambunctious cat. So, I could never picture Maisie on a child. Margaret Olivia and Margaret Ophelia are gorgeous!Suggestions:Margaret Anastasia
Margaret Emily
Margaret Sophia
Margaret Jane
Margaret Lily
Margaret Fiona
Margaret Susannah
Margaret Nicola
Margaret Lila
Margaret Nola
Margaret Vivian

Margaret nn Maisie - brilliant! I've known one Margaret nn Maisie and one 'just' Maisy.Maisie I always thought came from the scottish Marsaili, the Scottish version of Marjorie / Margery, and hence Margaret. In any case, it is very strongly Scottish to my ears- both Maisies I know are Scottish (or her parents are).sa

Do you think it would be okay for someone NOT Scottish at all to use? In your own personal opinion? I'm 100% Irish :)

Hehe, close enough. I'm English and Dutch, my DH is English and Metis- so I unfortunately don't think we could use some of the beautiful Scots and Irish names, but that wouldn't stop most- and I don't necessarily think it should. In sum, it's great :-Psa

Yes, I love Maisie as a nn for Margaret or Mairead. I also like Maggie and Meg, but Maisie is my favorite. Maisie is a nn for Mairead, but Mairead is a form of Margaret so Maisie as a nn for Margaret seems totally logical to me. :b Margaret Olivia and Margaret Ophelia are both gorgeous, btw.

Margaret Ophelia - lovely combo, beautiful flow

I love Margaret.Love, love, love, love it. Maisie is a fine nickname, and one I like quite a bit. My favorite Margaret combo is Margaret Helen... which isn't your style. Don't pair with frilly, fancy names - it ruins it for me. :-)

Actually, I was considering the combo Margaret Helena, which is quite similar. WDYT?ETA- my cousin Maggie (Margaret) is named fully Margaret Helen Surname.

Great name.Helena is too frilly, again. :-) I like Margaret Jane, Margaret Helen, Margaret Catherine - very classic, plain names.

Aw, but I love frilly! :-D Thanks so much for your input, I do love Margaret Catherine.

Margaret, nn Maisie makes perfect sense to me. It could be derived from Daisy (in French a daisy is "marguerite") or it could have stemmed from the nn Mae. These are just my guesses, but I've seen it listed as a traditional nn for Margaret. Margaret Olivia is beautiful. Margaret Ophelia is gutsy.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "gutsy"? I am not familiar with this word.

www.dictionary.com :-)Gutsy:
#1 Marked by courage or daring; plucky.
#2 Robust and uninhibited; lusty: “the gutsy... intensity of her musical involvement” (Judith Crist).Gutsy = full of guts

www.dictionary.com? Awesome! Ha! I think I have heard of that, but thanks for reminding me! So I am taking this to mean that it would be unwise to make Margaret Ophelia a combo?

Not at all! I meant it as a compliment. :-D

No, not at allLook at the connontations of her message and her usage of gutsy. Gutsy can be both bad and good. She enjoyed it. :-)

I love the name Margaret! Maisie is certainly a valid pet form of Margaret, and I think it's very cute, and much better than Maggie.

About the middle namesI LOVE Margaret Olivia! Gorgeous. Margaret Ophelia is pretty, but feels too 'weighty'.
