Almond?
Is this usable as a name or is it too ridiculous? Should it be pronounced Al-Mund or All-Mond?
Replies
Amandine!
It's French for almond.
It's French for almond.
It's nuts.
Sorry, I had to.
Sorry, I had to.
Ba doom shing!
It's too much of a flavor to sound like a name. But on the other hand I think Amandine is cute.
Rather use Armand. Which, when said by non-French people, sounds pretty much like Almond does where I live. The L is definitely silent.
With the exception of Hazel, which is well established, I don't think being named after a nut will necessarily inspire one's friends to outbreaks of discreet courtesy.

I would prefer the spelling Almund, because with Almund you can at least say that it is a real given name, as in e.g. Germany and the Netherlands, Almund is a short form of Adalmund (also found spelled as Adelmund) meaning "noble protection". The name is very rare in those countries these days though, because it is considered quite old-fashioned there (like most names that are of Germanic origin).
Yes, it's ridiculous.
I pronounce almond AHl-mund. It's a ridiculous name.

Amandine always reminds me of almonds. And for that reason I can't like it. It's too distracting.
As a general rule I dislike anything connected with food as a first name. So Almond is not one I would encourage. Sorry.

No need to apologize, I know it is silly, that is part of the fun of questioning what can and cannot be names!

Only usable for a celebrity not a real person.
OT, but...
celebs ARE real people. Not trying to start a fight or anything...

I find it ridiculous.
I have always liked nature names, but I have never been a fan of food names.

Almond, Pecan, Walnut...
Almond is a type of nut, so I don't really think of it as a name for a person. In general, I'm not into naming people after food.

It sounds like a stripper name. I don't like it.
What is wrong with strippers?
It doesn't sound very edgucated.
Haha, Beef Stroganoff is the best stripper name!
I will give it that.
Not at all usable, unless you're talking about a cat or something. It's just straight up ridiculous. I would never be able to take someone who named a child Almond seriously. And if I met an Almond I'd have a hard time saying their name with a straight face. If I were named Almond I'd choose to go by almost anything else rather than that. And no it doesn't matter how you pronounce it.
Pretty silly, even by my standards. What about Amandine?
Haha, I know it is silly but I was just wondering if it works as a name or not!
Well....not for me :-)
