Where I am from, Joyce is a grandmother name, which makes it perfect for a comeback right now. It's in the same vein as the uber-chic Evelyn imo.
Though, I do know of some "mom-age" Joyces... so it might still be frumpy-dated for some.
As for me, I have always preferred Joyce because it seems more complete than Joy. For some reason, I also think Joyce takes away some of the in-your-face girlishness out of Joyce.
Joy is part of my own name, and I like it. I just find it overly simple sometimes.
