Janet
I don't like Jane so much, is Janet an improvement? What about Jeannette? Do you pronounce them differently? For me Jeannette has the stress on the last syllable, the French way.- Formerly known as Murasaki-Some thoughts and recipeshttp://italianlaowaigirl.blogspot.com/http://lagerusalemmecucinata.blogspot.com/

Personally prefer Janet but think both names are a bit old fashioned.I pronounce Janet as JAH-NET (though the NET is more of a NIT sound I guess) and Jeanette as JEAN-ET

I don't think it is better than Jane. Personal associations - Rocky Horror, a woman I worked with who could be really rude sometimes, Janet Jackson - it sounds harsh to me.Jeannette would be juh-NET or jeen-NET in my accent, not the same as Janet (JAN-et). I like it zha-NET like in French too. Jane > Jeannette > JanetOh, and there's also Janae, which looks to me like a phonetic spelling of an American's attempt to say Janet in French. heh. Jeannette > Janae > Janet although I know Janae is much flimsier than Janet.

Ugh, no. Janet is much worse than Jane (and viler still is Janice imo). Jeanette I think is only pretty pronounced the French way with a 'zh' at the beginning

Oh man, Janice. It just brings up memories of Janice from Friends.

Well...do you know who loved my name? My husband, and his is the only opinion that matters to me.He wouldn't have been caught dead watching "Friends."

Yuck.I work with a bunch of Jans, Janets, Janas, and Jeanettes. They are sound the same and the name is pretty dull no matter which way you slice it.

I would probably be in the minority of those here in sayihg this, but I do think that Janet is an improvement over Jane, the same way that I think any variation of Mary is an improvement over Mary itself, as I consider Jane and Mary to be the most snooze-inducing, colorless, character-less female names that exist. Janet may be dated and blah blah blah but at least it says something.Between Janet and Jeannette, I prefer Jeannette. I don't pronounce them the same. Janet is JAN-et and Jeannette is je-NET. I put the stress on the last syllable of Jeannette also.

I like Jane better than Janet or Jeanette. But I really onlyb like it as a MN. As a first name I find all of them kind of boring. I have a friend with an Aunt Jeanette and she actually goes by Janet most of the time. She is a really nice hippy-ish lady. So I always associate the names with a free spirit flower child type of person.

I like Janet too, but I prefer Jane to Jan any day. So, realistically, I'd avoid Janet. Anyway, I like Jane!Jeannette - I also use the French pronunciation, and I don't like it in an Anglophone environment. I much prefer Jean, and I think I might even prefer Janine to Jeannette.

To me, Janet and Jeannette are both dated. The latter also has way too many extra letters for may taste. Jeanette would work better. Janet and Jeannette are not the same name at all. Janet is pronounced Jan-it while Jeannette is Djun-ett or Juh-nett.

I like Janet and Jeannette, though maybe you ought to stick with Janet because Jeannette would seem like a mouthful on a little girl.

Janet is fine. I do prefer it over Jeannette myself. How I say them:Janet: Jan-it (Rhyming with planet)
Jeannette: Ja-net
