Caroline is about the perfect name. It's classic, beautiful, steady, but not dull. It feels almost so elegant I'm hesitant to say I'd use it, because what if my kid was awkward like me.
I don't love Carolina. With a long I sound it's too much a place name and with a long E sound it's too delicate. The -line end feels sturdier and more practical.
I like Coraline. It's offbeat and fun, but I don't think as beautiful as Caroline.

I wouldn't have said it a month ago, but I think Caroline is lovely. I heard it on a little baby recently and it was just...gorgeous.

It's my name and I'm very happy to be a Caroline. My experience is that it is a name that works very well internationally (especially in English and French speaking countries). It's a name people know but it's less boring (in my opinion) than Emma and Anna and other overused names in the Western world.
I prefer Caroline over Carolina and Coraline.

I cooled on Caroline for a while, but I'm starting to really like it again. It's classic, pretty, and uncomplicated.
Coming from Texas, I run into Carolinas (ca-ro-LEE-na) all the time, but I much prefer Caroline. Coraline just seems like a needless complication.

I like Caroline, partly because it's my name. I also think it's a nice classic and it has a pleasant sound. Is it a favorite? No. I wouldn't use it on a child even if it weren't my own name. Partly, that's because it's so damn common down here (US Southeast).
I actually really like Coraline. I think it's quirky in a good way. I don't think I'd use it, but it'd make a good name for an animal (again if my name wasn't Caroline).

Weird. I know SO many.
I'm shocked as well. I'm a few years younger and from NC, but my experience is the same. Lots of peers with this name.

It's better than Coraline, that's for sure. Coraline was a weird and boring book, and it looks like a lipstick color and is hard to know how to pronounce it.
Caroline isn't terrible, but to me it has a sad, whiny, depressed sound to it. Almost dowdy, yet it's like the go-to name for upper-class white people in the city.
Carolina is prettier. It's usually clear that it's pronounced like the states, but I do know a little Carolina who is from Mexico and her name is pronounced Care-a-LEE-na.
Carolyn is also nice, but a bit middle-aged.

Carolina is inconveniently long and either geographical or unEnglish. Coraline ... I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how it's pronounced, but it looks like a typo. I much prefer Coralie.
I named my first daughter Caroline instead of the name I thought I was going to use. That name just didn't seem to fit her, and so I went through a name book until I found one that did. So it's certainly a name I like very much, but it wouldn't have been a first choice.
