EleanorBecause Eleanor has a very classy and noble touch to it.Laura has a soft sound, too, but there are way too many Lauras out there.

Eleanor is my very favorite girls' name. If I ever have a daughter who I get to name (i.e. who isn't adopted as an older child), it's the name I will use. I think I love it in part because it's my grandmother's name. I like Laura a lot too, and it would probably be a contender for a second or third daughter.

Laura...It's a simple classic. I like Eleanor too, but it has a weird meaning.

Eleanor butI like Laura - it's lovely. But Eleanor is strong, classy and smart. I always liked Ellie too.

This is a tough choice. I like them both. In the end, I think I'd choose Eleanor only because it's less popular. But Laura is still lovely.

EleanorI find Eleanor more interesting. Laura is pretty but bland. Lots of good NN options for Eleanor.

Eleanor. I really like the nickname Nell. And Laura is so overdone and bland. I know so many Lauras, it's just boring and forgettable.

Can I choose both?! I think they're both elegant choices. If I had to choose, Laura, because I dislike a lot of Eleanor's NNs.

I've got absolutely no reason to prefer Laura, but prefer it I do. It's so understated, so cheerful, so classic, so perfect for all ages.I love Eleanor and Elinor, and the two I've known well never used a nn at all, but most of 'em do. And that nn is Ellie in today's world and was Nellie for many centuries before that. Which puts me off, big time. The reason I never used Laura is that I was committed to using my late mother's name as either mn of fn, and it was Beatrice. So the combination is way too Italian-literature for comfort, especially as I've got no knowledge of Italian!

Eleanor1) It has lots of history with Roosevelt, Aquitane, etc.
2) It is classic, yet underused imo. There are great nicknames from the popular Ella, the chic Noor, the sweet Norah, and the unique Nola.
3) Laura is one of those names that people tend to forget. Its pretty, but its forgettable like Liz, Anne, Mary, and Lisa.

LauraI had a very dear friend who passed away 4 ys ago at a very young age who was named Laura. If my son would have been a girl the middle name would have been Lorelei to honor her.Eleanor just sounds rigid to me. I actually prefer Ellen.

Laura. Eleanor is just so dreadfully fancy and elegant. What if she was a tomboy? Wouldn't that be funny? Hmm... I'd actually love to know a tomboy named Eleanor, come to think of it.

Eleanor is my choice. I just prefer the sound of it. There's nothing wrong with Laura but it does remind me of a dear friend who passed away at age 19.

Laura. They're both lovely names, but Eleanor seems harsher and lacks the femininity that Laura has, a trait I like in girls names.

EleanorPrefer how it sounds, always been a favourite!

Eleanor. But it's only because I have a bad association with Laura. A person ruined the name for me. But I don't dislike Eleanor, I just have a feeling I'd like Laura more if it weren't for that.

Laura, I just prefer the sound, look and feel of that name to Eleanor.

Hmmm... this is hard. I really like both names. I think I *really* like Laura more, but I knew so many Lauras growing up that it seems kind of lackluster to me now even though it's a pretty classic name. I wish I could know a little Laura so the 80s sheen would wear off. I like Eleanor a lot, too, but mostly because I like its style, not because I like its sound. -Nor is harsh. And a lot of people I know say Ell-ner, which is HIDEOUS. I don't know, it's cute though, and quirky and classic. All in all, I like Laura more but Eleanor is awesome also. I'd definitely be more willing to name a daughter Eleanor than Laura.

Eleanor, because I like it more and I feel that it is more versatile.

I just prefer the look of Eleanor. Laura is a little dated; not as classic as the other classics. I would consider Eleanor, Elinor, Eleonore, or Eleonora. A nice alternative might be the Spanish form, Leonor, which I love. I have had many annoying Lauras in my life. Can't support.

Eleanor.Laura is so overused I feel like it's not overly interesting anymore.Eleanor is very pretty, though it's getting quite popular now, hence why it fell of my list!

Eleanor. I love the Medieval vibe I get from it, I love how long it's been in use and it's an elegant name. Laura is very pretty, but it doesn't exude the same amount of power that Eleanor does.
