I honestly like both but would actually use Iris. I love the meaning & it's connection to mythology. I also love that it starts with an I.

Iris is an old-fashioned stunner. I like how it ends in -s; that makes it different. Mira is just very...conventionally pretty. Two syllable, ends in -a, has pleasant sounds. it's rather bland.

Because of where I live, the first thing that pops into my head when I hear Mira is that it's the Spanish word for "Look!" I've never encountered it as a name on someone. It is nice, though, but I think I have to say Iris.

Iris is clear and light (what I look for in a name); Mira's pretty but it's not Iris.

I like both. I prefer Mira as a nickname for Miranda or something.

Iris looks simple and sweet, yet underneath packs a punch of flowers and rainbows. Iris is also distinctive and easy to remember. The only negative is that it's sort of trendy right now, but so are a lot of names that used to be "older" so who cares.

Mira doesn't happen where I live, so I've got no associations with it. I'd expect it to be a nn for Mirabel, Miranda or even Miriam, and for all of these I prefer the full form.

In that thread I voted for Nina, and in this one I vote enthusiastically for Iris. One of the nicer flower names, restrained and elegant. I'd use it.

Personally, I just think Iris looks and sounds better. I know that's not a proper reason but I guess I don't have a particular reason. Mira is nice too. They'd make lovely sisters =)
