I'm either disqualified or overqualified to answer this question because my name is Sylvia Anne.
I love both as first names. Personal associations with my own name were always woods, silver, sylphs, forests, fairies & dryads. Anne of Green Gables had poetry and fantasy stories in her head and so did I.
However, the name Anne by itself is really a blank slate for me. The Annes and Anns I've known have been of such varied ages and personalities that I don't get a feeling (other than general pleasantness) when I hear it.
