They should have completely different and unique names.... They are two people, dont put them together. If anything "similar" if you want to, make them two longer names that can have short nn. Like Nicholas and Alexander (Nicky and Alex, Full House) or Joseph (Joe), Timothy (Tim)...you get the picture....
I hate it when people try to play the twin cuteness and give them similar names. They are two completely different people, and they may look alike and be best of friends and the same/similar DNA, but they are not one. You wouldnt give one child a name and then the next child born a similar or rhyming name, would you? Some would, and thats their choice, but I think most people, especially on the boards, agree to give them their own name to display who they are as individuals.
