Theodate
http://www.behindthename.com/name/theodate/submittedWDYT of this name? I found it in an article and I think it rocks! I pronounce it thay-o-DAH-teh, I don't know if it's correct, but letting -date rhyme with "fate" sounds too strange.
I wouldn't use Theodate for real, but I think I will use it in a short story. It's so strange and grumpy it's almost cool.Does the sea exist
Because of our longing?

I would assume theo-DAH-tey is the correct pronunciation, as it came from Greek. THEO-dayt just seems wrong. Like pronouncing Penelope as PENNY-lohp. It's kinda cool, it reminds me of chocolate and its scientific name, theobroma.

I like that you made up a pronunciation because the other options "sounds too strange." That's my kind of logic. :)I find the ending a bit pretentious. Also, I would have thought it was masculine. Intriguing, though.

It's feminine? I never would have gotten that from Theodate. It reminds me of a theocrat on a date. :0P

I love it! It has a classical feel that makes me think of boarding school for some reason, heh. I imagined it as masculine, but I could see feminine too. Definitely a character name.Edit: dang it, I meant to respond to the OP, sorry.
