I've always quite liked Pepper as a nickname, though I would never use it as a given name. It's a little silly in that case.
Marigold is a bit frilly and prim.
Ethelred is a bit . . . not. Ethel is fine (though not a favorite), but it just looks like 2 separate words. I can't think of it as one word. It seems very spiky.
