Fern
Any feelings about Fern? I've really been drawn to the name lately, and I think I could be persuaded to use it. My great-grandmother was named Fern Mary, but I also like Fern Margot, Fern Marguerite, Fern Magdalene, Fern Madeline, Fern Margaret, Fern Eloise, and Fern Elmira.

Oh how I love the name Fern! It's soft, sweet and delicate, yet it has a spunky side which I find appealing. Fern Mary is beautiful as is Fern Eloise. I wish my DH liked this name, because I would have it on our list in a heartbeat. I think Ferny would make such a cute nn too.

I love it, it's short, sweet and firm. And so much more beautiful than the Swedish word for fern, ormbunke, which litterally means "snake's bowl"!

My grandmother was Ferne.I think of Charlotte's Web. It's a pretty name and would that I wouldn't mind seeing used.

I adore Fern! Fern Marguerite, Fern Magdalene, and Fern Eloise are sublime. Although I also adore Elmira (which no one else seems to appreciate), Fern Elmira doesn't do much for me. I think Fern is especially easy to have fun with. Fern Laxmi is my newest dyad.

I enjoy Fern a huge amount. It isn't a favourite of mine for my own kid but I would be so damn excited to meet one. I have never met one but it's the right mix of easily spelled, easily pronounced and super unusual that I love. Plus I love the Charlotte's Web reference.Fern Marguerite and Fern Madeline are my favourites although I prefer the spelling MadeleineETA: After reading other people's responses, I've realised it has never been a favourite because the imagery isn't particularly appealing to me. Not unappealing and would easily be usurped by a human Fern that I met but I've never met one so that's more difficult.

I could go either way with Fern. Fern Eloise is nice. Fern Margot is ok, but I actually think it sounds better Margot Fern.

Eh, it's okay. It doesn't excite me, really, but it's nice enough. I like Fern Eloise.

It reminds me of the novel Where the Red Fern Grows... not a name.

I feel that Fern is good because it's modest and simple and naturey, like Lark and Ivy.
And it's straightforward and plain without being ugly - like Jane and Ruth and Gail.
However I also find it not so great, because I feel its sound is harsh and strict, like the words burn and stern and learn. This makes it too plain somehow, not feminine or light enough, like Rowan or Briar. And I don't like how it seems a little too rustic and farmy - almost (but not quite) deliberately peasanty-romantic like Clover or Daisy, which is nms.
So, 6/10, a good name but not a fave. (I just removed it from my list today. I used to like it more)
Fern Margot is the best of those combos, IMO.

Yeah I like it. It's a bit dowdy but also springy and fresh. I slightly prefer Ferne only because the "pseudo-French" appearance makes it look more feminine, but that's my own weird logic. Fern Eloise is my favorite of yours but I also feel like it needs a more "modern" sounding name to balance it out. Fern Madeleine is cool, if I can tweak Fern Madeline. Fern Amelia
Fern Devany
Fern Samantha
Fern Tallulah
Fern Meredith
Fern Helena
Fern Adelaide
Fern Imogen

I love it. It's sweet and earthy with just a touch of whimsy. I like the cool, shaded, green imagery of the fern, too. It's not as showy as most botanical names.Fern Margot and Fern Mary are my favorites from your lists. A few other suggestions:Fern Eva
Fern Rebekah
Fern Audrey
Fern Johanna
Fern Amelia
Fern Lucy

I love Fern Rebekah. That is a beautiful name.

To me, Fern is in a class with Fawn that borders on the comical. Also, ferns, while not unattractive, are plain. I don't find the imagery ideal, to say the least. Just a no.
