I don't like the meaning.. Sad.

I like it as a boys name, it's a good name, sounds nice. Not sure about the nickname

I like it a lot. I know a 7-year-old Tristan. Tris is like Chris, seems as ok and natural.

The only "problem" is that Tristan rhymes Kristen and people have been using it for girls. However that would not stop me from using it if it were my favorite name. I do not think Tristan will become a mainly female name.

It's not a personal favorite because the consonants are too light for me to really love it enough to use it, but anyway thumbs up.

I like Tristan, though I prefer Drustan.

I can't make up my mind about Tristan. I go back and forth on this one, but at the moment I think it's alright. I was the name "Tristan Leon" (FN + LN) yesterday which I thought was cool/nice.

I'm not really liking Tris as a nickname though, it's too tied to the Divergent series.

I want to like it but I just can't get over the meaning. Usually, meanings don't bother me but in this case it's too obvious what it means (especially if you know any Romanic and/or Scandinavian languages).

I hate NN "Tris": when I saw this name I don't use nicknames...It is so fascinating as a full name! It don't need a short form.

Also in Italian the word for "sad" is "triste" so Tristan is for me romanticaly linked with melancholy.

I like Tristan alot. It has been on my long list for along time. Tris would also work as a NN. Good choice.

Love Tristan and would use it. I think it's nice yet stands out from other masculine names. Tris seems like an inevitable nn; I don't mind it.

I like it. Its cute and manly at the same time. But it would be a little weird in my country, Norway, because the word "trist" means "sad" in Norwegian.
