Re: Moana

I adore it, it's the name of a dear friend of mine, whose father is originally from Hawaii. My friend inherited his Hawaiian/Pacific Islander genes, so the name really suits her, if that makes sense.
Anyway because of that, I can only picture it on someone who is Pacific Islander in appearance, I can't picture it on say a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl. I'm not saying people shouldn't use it, it's just how I see it, because of my association. I'm sure if I actually met a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Moana, I'd soon get used to it!
I know my friend is keen that her name not get too popular as a result of the film, and to be honest, I don't think it's going to see the impact that Elsa had.
Funnily enough, I have a friend named Elsa, and that's her birth name (so she's not an Elisabeth nn Elsa or anything like that). Elsa isn't exactly enthralled at the impact Frozen has had on the name. With the Moana film coming out, the rest of us in our friendship group keep joking about which one of us will next see our name 'Disneyfied', although thankfully I think I'm fairly safe!!
